This linen Natural Noren Japanese room divider is handcrafted by Masao Kiyoe. He specializes in natural dyes and the traditional shibori tie-dye technique.

The natural hue is the organic, unbleached color of linen. Hang it on your wall to add an airy atmosphere to your room or between two spaces to create flow and continuity in your home - rather than dividing with a door.

Masao Kiyoe is a shibori-zome (Japanese tie-dye) craftsperson based in Kyoto, specializing in kusaki-zome—a traditional dyeing method using natural colors extracted from plants. Dyeing runs deep in his lineage, with relatives having dedicated generations to the art. Originally working in construction, he shifted paths after an accident and immersed himself in the world of natural dyes, tying (shibori) and dyeing (zome) techniques. For over 47 years, he has created textiles that reflect Japan’s seasons, nature, and heritage, all from his intimate workshop nestled near Kiyomizu Temple.
