This piece is by preorder only, with each one made custom. It takes 2–3 months to ship from order. Variations occur.
A modern take on the traditional room divider (byobu), this piece features a spectrum of white and off-white washi mounted in a patchwork pattern over a wooden frame.
The overlaps and lines draw attention to the textural detail of washi material, while the subtle variations in shade add a sense of warmth.
The divider offers a functional way to segment space with an eye-catching piece that makes a statement in any room.
About the artist
Tete
Tete is an artist based in Kyoto. She takes the scraps from leftover sheets of washi and creates unique and organic textured patchwork-style pieces, aiming to diversify and expand the use of washi in modern homes.
Tete (whose name takes inspiration from the French word thé for tea) began her creative journey with washi by making tools and storage for tea.
She draws inspiration from the material of washi itself, saying each piece has its own character. When selecting which pieces to combine, they’ll ‘speak’ to her, leading her to a creative decision.
