Cloud Gables
One of our most storied pieces, these cloud gables come from the temple where the renowned haiku poet from the Edo-period, Matsuo Bashō, is buried. He visited and stayed at the temple many times over the course of his travels and requested in his will that he be interred there.
The pair of gables have intricately carved cloud motifs on both sides, creating a rich visual texture. Beautiful and historically connected, these are true collector's items.
Each gable has variations due to the shape of the wood and the way they’ve aged.
