Tetsubin - Octagon
These Tetsubin teapots, offered in Octagon and Round variants, are a masterclass in balancing contrast between delicacy of form and durability of material.
Iron is softened and shaped with heat and coated in lacquer to enhance the longevity of the piece's useful life. Through the artisan's hands, the negative qualities often associated with metal are transformed: hardness becomes softness, coldness becomes warmth. The weight and solidity of metal are transformed into something delicate and refined.
With regular use, the color and luster of this product will gradually change, developing a rich and unique character.
Please pay careful attention to the care and safety instructions of this piece to ensure an enjoyable experience and long-lasting product.

Sakai Naoki
Materials: Iron + Lacquer
Dimensions
cm: H25 x W17 x D15
inch: H9.8 x W6.7 x D5.9
Care Instructions
- Before first use, boil tea (green tea, same leaves can be used) several times to reduce the natural smell of the interior lacquer.
- A white mineral layer will naturally form inside with use and helps prevent rust. After each use, empty any remaining water and dry completely using residual heat or low heat (low flame) for a few seconds. Avoid excessive dry heating and always use low heat.
- Do not scrub with steel wool, rough hard sponges or polishing creams and such - it will damage the urushi layer on the iron and cause rust.
- To clean use only water. Cleaning detergents can degenerate the protective coating and cause rust. Recommended cleaning tools include soft towel or a shuro scrubbing brush.
- If rust appears, it is safe to continue using the product. Boiling tea several times will help neutralize the rust through the natural tannins in the tea. Do not scrub or remove the rust or mineral layer.
- If a part of the pot gets wet, try to wet the entire thing — otherwise a single spot might develop different coloring than the rest.
Safety Instructions
- It is okay to boil water over flame and induction heating stoves.
- This is a metal tea pot and therefore becomes quite hot when heating and when holding hot water. Always use a pot holder or equivalent when handling the pot . Take care not to burn yourself.
- Since the teapot is made from solid iron it is quite heavy, please take care when you pour to not spill hot water or drop the teapot.
