Each Takiawase Set comes with five types of incense you can choose to blend. Use your creativity or draw inspiration from our recommended pairings in the details tab.

To fully awaken the essence of a fragrance, you may need to light two sticks of the same scent together, allowing its character to bloom more vividly. Please adjust freely, attuning the experience to your space and your own sensibilities.

Based on Awaji Island, the region is known for being the original birthplace of incense in Japan. The history of incense in Japan dates back to an April day in 595 AD, according to The Chronicles of Japan (720 AD) when a piece of aromatic wood drifted to the shores of Awaji Island. With its year-long warm climate and ample sea breeze, the island is an ideal place to dry the incense - a crucial process in its making.
