These coasters use petite bamboo slats woven together to create a product made of wood that is flexible like fabric.

Give your drinks an attractive place to rest and protect your furniture with sudare coasters. Our coasters are colored using the Ibushi, 'smoked,' method in which the coasters are smoked for up to three weeks to create their distinctive amber hue.

Before their founding, Kyoto bamboo crafts had focused on everyday items such as colanders, but by incorporating the cultures of tea ceremony and flower arrangement, the second generation of the family laid the foundation for Kyoto bamboo crafts as we know them today. They are known for their sudare blinds and bamboo weaving.

Today, the Nishikawa workshop is passionate about facing the challenge of carrying on the tradition of bamboo craftsmanship, especially as the industry faces decline. They remain committed to selecting high quality materials and preserving traditional techniques.

Care

Care Instructions

Do not wash with water or wipe with a wet cloth, as moisture can cause mold or damage the natural fibers. To clean, simply dust with a soft brush or wipe gently with a dry cloth.
Because these items are handcrafted from natural bamboo, slight variations in color, thickness, and size are to be expected.
Prolonged exposure to sunlight will naturally cause the reeds to change color over time. Please enjoy this gradual aging process as a unique characteristic of natural materials.
When not in use, ensure the product is completely dry and store it in a well-ventilated location to prevent mildew.
