The family behind this collection has been making Orin for 170 years. Each Orin’s sound is entirely unique due to variations in the lengthy maker process.

These orin range in size with varying depth of tone, with the smaller bowls producing a higher pitch. The cushion they rest on helps the sound to resonate throughout your space.

Shirai Family

This is one of the last two families in Kyoto making Orin by hand. With a workshop history of 170 years, the art of Sahari Orin — which is made from a copper-tin alloy — has been passed down from generation to generation.

The family can only fire the kiln for the Orin every 3–4 months, making each piece rare and precious. On firing days, family members come from all around to help with the long and arduous process of making Orin, which involves clay selection, shaping the mold, firing, filling the mold with molten copper and tin, cooling, and smoothing and polishing.

Care

Your Orin is made of delicate metal. Dropping can result in breaking. If it cracks even a little, it will stop ringing.
The Orin will change color naturally over time.
To clean, wipe with a soft, dry cloth — do not apply any cleaning products.
If cared for well, you can pass your Orin down for generations.
