Produced in Mie Prefecture, known for its woodworking heritage, this mirror is the product of a collaboration between designer Kazuto Yoshikawa and a multi-generational family workshop that's crafted frames since 1946.

The design revives a dormant hinoki wood-bending technique, giving the mirror its unique shape. It draws the eye and anchors any space, making it a decorative element that serves as a focal point in your room.

Kazuto Yoshikawa

Kazuto Yoshikawa, a Tokyo-based designer with deep roots in traditional Japanese woodworking, collaborated with the Miyagawa family-run workshop that has been making frames since 1946.

The intention of the project was to preserve the hinoki wood-bending process. The workshop historically created these frames to display calligraphy in tea rooms, but has since lain dormant.

The collaboration utilizes ethically-sourced hinoki wood from Toyota’s sustainably managed forests in Mie and applies the traditional technique to a modern and contemporary design.
