Get to know Japan through the landscape of its crafts. This is the first in a series of regional maps that stylistically highlight the craft centers of Japan.
We begin closest to home, in the Kinki region. Kinki holds within it the prefectures of Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hyōgo (home to Kobe), Shiga, and Wakayama. The map highlights the 10 most prevalent craft traditions and where you can discover them.
The poster is silk-screen printed on lightly textured washi paper with gold ink detailing. Use this map as decor, education, and inspiration for a deeper exploration of Japan; both on and off the beaten path, there’s a rich world of artisan culture to discover.
About the illustrator
Eiko Hayashi is an art director and graphic designer from Nagano, who views design as a means for creating culture. She has translated the geography of the craft landscape in the Kinki region with clever iconography and clean layouts.
