About Kintsugi
Kintsugi golden joinery is the Japanese art of repairing broken wares by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer followed by dusting with powdered gold. Read more about the history of kintsugi.
About the craftsmen
The Kintsugi Kits are made in collaboration with Tsutsumi Asakichi Urushi Shop - a family-run business dedicated to the craft of urushi refinery since 1905.
Fourth-generation successor, Takuya Tsutsumi, leads numerous advocacy projects to bring attention to the struggling urushi industry. In addition to planting urushi trees in the northern area of Kyoto city, he unites his passion for surfing and skateboarding with urushi by making stylish and durable urushi-lacquered boards. His mission is to make urushi more approachable, showcasing the various ways in which it can easily find a place in our everyday lives.
