About the craft
The tableware is made using kijibiki woodturning and lacquerware techniques in Yamanaka Onsen, Ishikawa Prefecture. To highlight the original beauty of the tree and ensure the durability of the ware, craftspeople opt to saw tategi-dori following the direction of the wood grain.
Gato Mikiko Shoten is responsible for coordinating the production of these pieces among multiple artisans and workshops in the Yamanaka area. From wood turning, to urushi application, to final touches, each piece passes through the hands of specialized expert artisans.
