Itajime Tapestry
This tapestry introduces a new dyeing tradition: Itajime shibori.
Itajime literally means 'board clamping.' Fabric is carefully folded between two small boards before being submerged in dye. The exposed fabric absorbs the color while the compressed areas resist it, resulting in beautiful repeating patterns.
The unique touch that the maker behind the Itajime Tapestry adds is instead of submerging in dye, the folded fabric is carefully dabbed on and then diluted in order to create a blurring effect.
Each piece has unique depth of color and patterning, bringing variation and visual interest to any room.
