The Itajime Haori is a piece of wearable artistry.

Itajime, literally meaning ‘board clamping’, is a technique that creates a geometric and gently blurred pattern.

Fabric is carefully folded between two small boards before being submerged in dye. The exposed fabric absorbs the color while the compressed areas resist it, resulting in beautiful repeating patterns.

Featuring an all-natural silk and cotton blend, this contemporary interpretation of the traditional Haori garment is light and breathable.

Haori was originally a piece of men’s outerwear, but a Geisha district in Tokyo known for their fashion choices adopted it, and it subsequently became a staple piece of women’s clothing as well.

Care

Washing instructions

Hand wash

Fill a basin with lukewarm water and add a mild detergent.
Gently swish the linen items in the water, avoiding twisting or scrubbing.
Soak for about 10-15 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly with clean water, and gently press out excess water.

Machine wash

Use cool or lukewarm water.
Wash linen separately or with like colors.
Use the gentle or delicate cycle on your washing machine.
Avoid overfilling the machine, as linen needs space to move freely.
Use a mild detergent designed for delicate fabrics or a natural detergent.
