Hegi Tray in Indigo
Hegi Tray in Indigo
FREE SHIPPING on orders USD 300+
The octagonal Hegi Tray is made by hand-splitting mature paulownia wood, resulting in a textured surface. This technique creates an incredibly lightweight tray that celebrates the organic material.
It also uses the traditional sashimono joinery technique, meaning the Hegi Tray is assembled without the use of metal nails or screws. Use it as a serving, catchall, tea, or bathroom tray.
Available in indigo, charcoal, and shell and in three sizes. We benefit from the anti-bacterial and anti-pest properties of these natural dyes.
Items marked as preorder ship approx. 1 month from order date.
About the artisan
Since 1877, the Tahara family has been passing down the technique of sashimono joinery and making kiri paulownia wooden boxes often used to protect valuable silk linens and ceramic vessels from light, wear, and seasonal fluctuation in temperature and humidity. Adapting to social and cultural shifts, the family has been applying traditional techniques to create everyday items for our modern home, like trays to amenity boxes.
