We are honored to be working with the 16th generation of the Suzuki Family on this incense plate.
The Mokkō plate provides the perfect space for burning incense. The material and darker color of cast iron is resistant to discoloration from ash residue or burning.
The design is inspired by POJ Studio’s logo, which is influenced by the mokkō motif—a classic symbol in Japanese family crests and ornamentation. It symbolizes the ecosystem that POJ Studio is trying to nurture, where nature, craft, design, and storytelling come together to build community.
This plate is compatible with all forms of incense
that we offer, so you can enjoy the full range knowing you’re getting the best aromatic experience.
About the artisan
Suzuki Morihisa
The Suzuki Family is one of the most respected families in the iron casting industry, with origins reaching as far back as 1625. The presiding CEO and our direct collaborator, Suzuki Shigeo, has partnered with brands and exhibitions as varied as Apple, Lexus, Suntory, and Honolulu Fashion Week. The Studio’s products are so sought after that it’s not unusual for their works to have a years-long waitlist.
About the designer
Kayoko Stäheli-Shinohara
This incense plate is designed by Founder Tina’s mother, Kayoko. Kayoko inspired POJ Studio by exposing Tina to artisans across Japan, where she learned about the struggles of traditional craftspeople.
Kayoko has played a key role not only as an inspiration for the company’s founding but as a consultative partner. She has introduced POJ Studio to many of the artisans we work with today, including our partners on the Cast Iron Collection.

Care instructions
- Keep your cast iron ware in a dry, well-ventilated place to prevent rusting.
- The best way to remove ash residue is simply to brush or wipe it off with a dry dishcloth.
- If washing to remove ash residue, please rinse with plain water, do not use soap or a scrub brush, and dry thoroughly to ensure no moisture is left behind.
- For products with grooves, use a blow dryer to ensure all nooks are well-dried.
