This incense stand brings the texture of the earth into the home. Each shape is unique according to how the sediment forms and separates. It is designed to be paired with Sen Incense.
The red clay is local to the mountains in Gaku Nakane’s area, and you can see the sediment structure in the figure. His work honors the natural environment of his youth.

ABOUT THE ARTISAN
Gaku Nakane
Gaku Nakane, a 30-year-old potter, was raised by artisan parents in the idyllic countryside of Shiga prefecture.
Playing amongst the natural environment as a child, and observing the textures of trees, surfaces of rocks, and other materials that have withstood the test of time, have shaped his own artistic identity - one that is whimsical yet bold.
Each of his pottery pieces is made by layering two types of clay. When firing, the discrepancy in shrinkage between the two layers creates a unique crackled pattern on each vessel and sculpture. Gaku hopes to bring warmth and charm to homes near and far through his work.
