The Hoshino Fan
This fan is a collaboration between the Miyawaki Baisenan workshop and Hoshino Yuya—a talented nature photographer. One side features the forests of Kyoto, and the other hosts a silver abstraction that is reminiscent of wind through the trees.

About the artisan
Miyawaki Baisenan
This multi-generational business has produced elegant fans since the Edo period, beginning in 1823. Throughout its history, it’s had close ties with Kyoto’s literati and artists—its shop name was even bestowed by painter Tomioka Tessai.
They care deeply about the succession of the sensu-making technique, often creating new fans based on which craftspeople need work.
