About the artisan
Naoya Arakawa is internationally celebrated for his striking hand-blown glass. As his home and workshop are located in Kyotamba, a quiet, picturesque region of the Kyoto countryside, Arakawa finds inspiration from the abundant spring water that surrounds him.
His expressive glassware is an ideal medium to experience the dynamic beauty of light in the natural world.
Arakawa is constantly ideating new ways to reuse and reduce waste. His moving glass sculptures are built with upcycled parts. And he enjoys collecting his neighbors' used cooking oil to fuel his kiln.
