This set highlights the purity and depth of aromatic wood, allowing for a more nuanced appreciation of the scent — similar to enjoying fine wine.
Unlike the more common stick or cone incense, kōro involves the gentle heating of pieces of aromatic wood like sandalwood and agarwood to vaporize their natural fragrances without burning them directly.
About Kōro
Incense is one of the three classical arts of refinement, along with tea ceremony and flower arranging. Kōro provides a traditional method of scenting a space in order to enjoy the purest form of the fragrance released from aromatic woods.
By burying a small piece of charcoal in a pot of ash and placing the woodchips on the warmed ash, the natural resins and oils will release in a controlled and gradual process. This releases their inherent scents more distinctly.

- Charcoal has a burn time of 10–15~ minutes. Do not leave the incense pot unattended while charcoal is still burning.
- Be mindful that the incense pot will heat up during use. Treat it like you would a hot mug of tea.
- If washing to remove ash residue, please rinse with plain water, do not use soap or a scrub brush, and dry thoroughly to ensure no moisture is left behind.
- Over time, the ash will retain the scent of incense burned on it. To maintain the purity of scent using the kōro method, refresh the ash if you’re using it to hold and burn varying scents of incense.
