Carrying on the legacy of 16 generations of potters, Hosai Matsubayashi is the human embodiment of the evolution of tea culture in Japan. Known by many for creating work that retains the style rooted in traditions, he simultaneously integrates a more contemporary aspect drawing inspiration from the flow of the Uji River and the philosophy of Kireisabi.
“There are two sides to the meaning of Kireisabi. “Kirei” - the beauty of perfect harmony, and “Sabi,” part of “wabisabi” - finding beauty in primitive and simple things. We think of kireisabi as the harmony of those two elements.”
Find out through this documentary how he pursues Kireisabi and the uncertainty the potters face to see the fruits of their labor. It is an honor to be able to introduce you to this Zaoh Matcha Bowl Set that has come to life only through the meticulous work of current craftsmen and the passing down of knowledge from generations of craftspeople before us.
