The Shuro hemp palm Broom’s bristles are supple yet durable, effective at removing the finest dust particles and pet hair in the home without damaging the floor. Frequent use of the broom will leave surfaces polished due to the hemp palm’s natural oils.
Bound by copper in bundles of 5, the beautiful, functional, and time-tested broom will last decades. Compared to the 7-bundle broom, this broom is narrower, making it suitable for cleaning confined spaces, such as stairs, and gaps between and under furniture.
Onike vs. Kawa
The premium onike demon-hair broom is made by hand-selecting only the highest-quality fibers from within sheaths of hemp palm, and binding individual bristles together. The most durable of the collection, it is a broom that can last generations. The ultra-fine bristles collect the tiniest of particles sitting in-between floor panels and door frames. The kawa bark broom is made by rolling sheaths of hemp palm. Lightweight and practical, it can also be used to collect dust from window panes and ceiling beams.
About the artisan and craft:
The brooms and brushes are bundled and bound by Yamamoto Katsunosuke Shoten in Wakayama Prefecture - a region known for making hemp palm tools for the home. Legend says that the first palm seeds were brought to Japan by a monk who traveled to China 1,200 years ago and planted them in a temple in this area of Wakayama. Warm and temperate, the region is the ideal climate for hemp palm to grow naturally.
Dimensions: 125 x 22 cm (49 x 8.6 in)
Care instructions:
- Before using, gently shake the broom to rid debris from the bristles, or wash with water.
- Always hang the broom by the rope attached to the end of the handle when not in use. Avoid placing it on the floor as the bristles will crease and make it difficult to sweep.
How to wash the broom:
- Place the broom in running water and gently comb the bristles of the broom with your fingers or a scrubbing brush.
- Hang the broom to dry in an area with plentiful airflow. Avoid placing it under the sun.
