Handstitched using repurposed textiles, the Sashiko Pillow Cover has a subtle yet intricate embroidered pattern. The wave pillow is made with two types of stitches - a combination of wavy and straight lines - and is available in two color tones. The pillow is available in three variations: Line, Wave and patchwork.
We felt particularly drawn to the handmade pillow covers by Mr. Akiyama, which all embodied a sense of dynamism and playfulness. This traditional technique of sashiko stitching, dating back to the 17th century, was often used to reinforce garments and protect the wearer from the cold.
Items are handcrafted and may vary slightly from the photograph.
Items marked as preorder ship approx. 1-2 months from order date.
About the artisan
Mr. Akiyama works at a company that unites a diversity of people, techniques, and textiles - like a patchwork. This socially-conscious company creates an inclusive, safe, and growth-oriented space for persons with disabilities, preserves traditional techniques by accommodating the modern home, and repurposes old textiles. The company hopes to enrich the lives of those who have purchased sashiko embroidered products, which in turn enriches the lives of those who work there.
