About the artisan: 

Since 1877, the Tahara family has been passing down the technique of sashimono joinery and making wooden boxes often used to protect valuable silk linens and ceramic vessels from light, wear, and seasonal fluctuation in temperature and humidity. Adapting to social and cultural shifts, the family has been applying traditional techniques to create everyday items for our modern home, from trays to amenity boxes.
